This notice is to inform you that FanQuest 2020 has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns as the City of Winnipeg has suspended all festival and event permits until the end of June. Some suggestions are being batted around on FanQuest‘s end regarding either a make-up date or skipping this year or something else. When I know more, I will keep everyone posted.
Apologies for any inconvenience. Hopefully FanQuest 2020 will still happen somehow.
Ps. Today, the latest chapter of Gigantigator Death Machine hit Patreon! In this episode, Dave finds himself in the water. Most of the book is now uploaded. Read this latest chapter and the archives for just a buck by joining my Patreon journey here. Thank you in advance for your support.
After years of putting it off, I’m stepping down from being solely an author. “Solely” being the operative word. The book publishing industry rewarded me in the ways I needed, taught me the things I wanted to learn, and helped me meet the types of people I wanted to meet, both creator and reader alike. And while true that since I’ve been back from being ill, I’ve taken on the mantle of writer/artist instead of just writer, I thought it’d be a fair thing to tell you what the current road map looks like career-wise so I don’t accidentally mislead you.
This is the general plan:
2020 is a year of rebuilding hence Project Rebuild. Throughout the course of the year–with the very end of the year being the ideal-but-flexible deadline–I’ll be bringing my book list into the 21st century and will release a new thing or two along the way. And it will take the whole year or potentially more because I have a lot of titles and all this takes time.
Going forward in 2021, I have a few books that are done that need releasing so those will be tended to as well as finishing off some works-in-progress to wrap them up.
While the above two are occuring, I’ll be spending most of my time and energy devoted to making comics. Comics are what started me on the publishing path and are a great love of mine. In short, writing books will be a secondary thing compared to the comics.
All I want to do is finish the last bit of my book publishing life and make comics going forward.
For Axiom-man fans, don’t worry. Lots of prose adventures coming. I’m referring to my non-superhero work.
I also need to point out something to my readers that needs to be taken into consideration: I’m still sick. I’m much better than before, but even when I started up again at the end of last August, I was operating at around 65-70% capacity. Going hard at 1000mph has dropped me to about 50% on a good day, 40-45% on every other day. Each day I come to the keyboard, I’m not healthy on multiple levels, but I work anyway because making art and stories is what I do and it’s what helps me survive. All I’m saying is I’m changing things on various levels so I don’t keel over and die one day in the middle of a script or while drawing something. It is also important to point out that my shift to comics isn’t about accommodating for being unwell. It’s about looking ahead to my deathbed when I’m lying there and looking back. I know I’ll regret it if I don’t do comics and since time is the most valuable thing on this earth, I want to spend it doing something I love.
Please note my Blood of my World Trilogy (Discovery of Death, Memories of Death, and Life of Death) are the next to be rebuilt.
The current editions will remain in print until we get close to press day on the reissue and then you will be notified of when they are going out of print. Now is a good time to get these first-edition copies in print or eBook before they’re gone for good.
Once the reissue for the Blood of my World Trilogy is complete, the next batch of reissues will be announced.
Note: The word “reissue” and not the plural was used on purpose because these three novellas are being consolidated into one volume when revamped.
Lastly, yesterday I posted a new video about the 1000mph work club. Please go here to check it out and see if you relate to doing a thousand things at once.
First Edition Undead World Trilogy Going Out of Print.
Like I said I would mention when the time came, the first editions of my Undead World Trilogy (Blood of the Dead, Possession of the Dead, Redemption of the Dead) are going out of print as of today. My distributors will be notified and in the case of eBooks, the files will be pulled down. You have maybe a couple days to load up on copies but that’s about it. Please grab them now because this is the last chance. (I will leave the thumbnails up in my Book and Comic Shop until the switch-over when the new ones come out.)
The new editions for all three books in the Undead World Trilogy will be out soon enough and there will be info on the blog when that time comes.
Thank you for supporting these first editions, whether that was back when they first came out or just recently.
Ps. Today, a little secret something for the Behind the Scenes tier on my Patreon page was posted. Go here to check it out. Thanks.
As part of the original conception of Project Rebirth, creating audio editions of my work is on the docket. These will occur sometime after this year because the reissues of Project Rebuild and the publishing of new work are priority.
I’ve dabbled in audio before. I recorded the first Axiom-man book many, many years ago as a free download (sorry, I no longer have the files to this and it was pulled from the original distributor many years back). I also recorded a video reading of the first four (I think) chapters of Blood of the Dead, which aired on my old YouTube channel (here’s the new channel). The first bit of Blood of the Dead was also recorded as an audio drama on an old zombie podcast back in the day (it was really cool).
This is the next step for the books once I’m caught up on everything else.
Please accept this blog entry as mere notice that audio editions are on the horizon, but due to the number of books I’ve written and the time it takes to properly record them and package them, audio book releases are still a decent ways off into the future.
But no fear! You can still read all my novels in book form in paperback and eBook by visiting the Book and Comic Shop.
At long last, the Axiom-man/Auroraman: Frozen Storm copies have shipped and went out last week. Auroraman creator Jeff Burton now has them for his signature and Kickstarter fulfillment. Those who ordered the tiers with the Frozen Storm paperback and/or the Frozen Storm limited lettered edition will now get their copies once Jeff’s signature is in place.
Thank you for your patience throughout this campaign.
Here is a video showcasing the editions. While you saw the paperbacks hot off the press in one video and the lettered edition in a separate unboxing video, here they are together.
In an effort to make sure the reissue and new release schedules are on track, I’ll be offline this week so no blog entries until I return. (I might post something if I need variety but that’s a maybe.) Feel free to check back every day just in case and/or surf the blog for past entries to get caught up on anything you missed. Also, my social feeds are on automated Broadcast Mode so I cannot be reached there. If you’re a Patreon subscriber, this week’s post for the Essays tier will show up in the Patreon feed on your pocket computer (or on the website on the non-pocket computer). It’s an essay on how to always keep your audience engaged.
If you are a client, please use email. If you are a reader and need to reach me, please use email. Please note that email is very low priority so unless I owe you a project (which I can identify by the sender), most likely emails will be replied to upon my return. If it’s an emergency, then you know who you are who has that kind of access.
Enjoy your week, everyone. See you on the other side in Saturday’s newsletter.
To keep busy while I’m away, here are some suggestions:
Read back issues of The Canister X Transmission and be sure to subscribe to receive a letter from me every Saturday in your inbox.
Review the social feeds to the right if viewing this entry on a standard web browser to make sure you and I are connected on your various social networks. If you are viewing this on your computerized telephone, type “A.P. Fuchs” into your social network’s search bar and you’ll find me.
Relax and take care of yourself however that might look like.
With Project Rebuild underway, we’re getting into that season I’ve been talking about for the past while: release season.
Though the project list between new stuff and the reissues is long, here is the short-term release schedule with an estimate on timeframe. (Times to be locked down next week so the below is a rough guide. Things will probably happen faster but I’m giving breathing room just in case.)
Blood of the Dead – later February 2020 Possession of the Dead – later February 2020 Redemption of the Dead – later February 2020
New release:
Gigantigator Death Machine – First half of 2020
We’ll revisit this list as time goes on.
Also note Gigantigator Death Machine is currently airing on my Patreon as a serial novel. You can read it early by going here (just a buck a month plus it’s a way to support me as a creator; new chapter every two weeks).
The method to the madness here is seeing where things are at after the first round of reissues. This will inform the timing of the next batch of reissues and the next new release, but for now, let’s focus on First Batch of Releases 2020.
There are more cool things happening behind the scenes but I haven’t gotten into them publicly. Some details are still being ironed out (involves other people) so if/when I’m able to talk about it, I will. Regardless, these processes behind the scenes are working and all is on track.
I’m pleased to announce I’ll be attending FanQuest in June in Winnipeg (specific dates still being determined; please keep an eye on my Convention and Book Signing Schedule for them). You’ll find me tabling there with author Melinda Marshall. I’ll bring loads of monster and superhero books and art for you to check out and enjoy.
FanQuest is a newish show. I think I’ve tabled it twice in the past. Regardless, it’s good times.
Please note I will be tabling at the Winnipeg Comiccon on October 30 to November 1, 2020. You’ll find me and author Melinda Marshall in Artist Alley with a couple of tables full of monster and superhero books, comics, and art.
This is the first show I’m booked for since taking a break from conventions and appearances in 2018-2019.
