  • Various Bits from the Net – 032420

Posted on March 24, 2020 12:11 pm by A.P. Fuchs

Welcome to Various Bits from the Net – 032420.

This semi-regular segment is about items on the World Wide Web that I found interesting or amusing and thought worth mentioning on a public space like this blog. This was last segment.

    And so . . .

Been reading Saucetown magazine ever since artist friend Sean Simmans told me he’s working on it and sent me stuff. Go here. It’s a satire thing.

I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation growing up and got really into it in high school. I remember watching the finale when it originally aired and it marking the end of an era. But, like all things, you can get some humor out of it so watch this:

Recently, we got treated to a look at the Batmobile Robert Pattinson’s Batman will drive. As a fan of muscle cars, I’m cool with the new design and am glad they are trying something new. Here is an article from when the picture came out.

A little plug of my own: While the blog was in maintenance mode, my Patreon page was still running and content was still being added, up to including today, which saw the release of the 14th chapter of Gigantigator Death Machine. For just a buck, you get access to the ongoing serial novel and its archives plus patron-only blog posts. Join the story by going here. Every bit of support is appreciated. Thanks.

  • On the New Coronavirus Paradigm

    On the New Coronavirus Paradigm

    On the New Coronavirus Paradigm

Coronavirus is on the rise, and with it now growing inside Canadian borders, various precautions are being taken that are affecting many areas of life. Old routines are gone, new ones are being formed. Strange timing because I was in the midst of a planned routine change already so it’s kind of a double change-up for me in that regard.

We’re finding our footing in this new paradigm where we all need to band together to see this through as healthily as possible, both domestically and the worldover.

I’m not sure what the next few weeks are going to look like as things ramp up. I also don’t know what the next few months will look like after Canada peaks with this thing.

    Time for changes.

    Time for kindness.

    Time for patience.

    We’re all in this together.

  • Slowing Down to Speed Up: Social Media Schedule Shift

Posted on March 17, 2020 10:59 am by A.P. Fuchs
Slowing Down to Speed Up 2

Slowing Down to Speed Up: Social Media Schedule Shift.

As mentioned in this entry, the blogging schedule is changing here for the short-term due to the workload behind the screen. This also will affect how I run my social media. In short, nearly all my networks will be used to point people to articles of interest, videos, blog entries, and a few other things as per usual, the difference being that that’s pretty much all they’ll be used for. Sure, I might throw in some musings or wisecracks, but in terms of social discussion, we’re pretty much in Broadcast Mode.

Regarding Instagram, we’re going to primarily be turning it into an art channel and a book cover showcase as well as a notifier of new YouTube videos.

The social media game is changing in general and the above changes to my social media schedule are my way to utilize those platforms in the best way possible for my particular business model.

And, of course, tweaks and adjustments will be made along the way as time goes on because that’s the nature of this game.

Type “A.P. Fuchs” into your social networks’ search bars and you should find me since I am on most platforms.

    Thanks.

    Slowing Down to Speed Up

Slowing Down to Speed Up: Blogging Schedule Shift.

There is a lot on the go. Working at 1000mph has birthed all sorts of pathways and roads to travel down. Problem is, I only have one car.

    You get the parallel.

This note is to inform you my new working method is based on the concept of slowing down to speed up. This is healthy for you, healthy for me, and healthy for 2020’s goals and projects as a whole.

So here is the new blogging schedule:

    Whenever.

Simply put, the blog is short-term switching over to me posting when I feel like it or have something to say or want to show you something. Knowing me, it’ll still be fairly regularly but not on the Monday-to-Friday-mornings schedule. Going to keep things fluid for the time being. Be sure to check in as part of your Internet rounds, but bear in mind I could be posting any time of day. New posts will also be shared via the social networks as per usual.

We’re at a place with the workload where something relatively large needs to drop to Low Power Mode and the blog was selected.

Be sure to subscribe to my weekly newsletter, The Canister X Transmission. Each issue has a blog headline rundown as to what posted during the week so it’s another simple way to be notified of new content. It goes out Saturdays.

    Thanks.

  • An Elaboration of 2020 and a Career Shift

Posted on March 16, 2020 10:37 am by A.P. Fuchs
    Comics work
Part of a print in progress on the drawing board

An Elaboration of 2020 and a Career Shift.

After years of putting it off, I’m stepping down from being solely an author. “Solely” being the operative word. The book publishing industry rewarded me in the ways I needed, taught me the things I wanted to learn, and helped me meet the types of people I wanted to meet, both creator and reader alike. And while true that since I’ve been back from being ill, I’ve taken on the mantle of writer/artist instead of just writer, I thought it’d be a fair thing to tell you what the current road map looks like career-wise so I don’t accidentally mislead you.

    This is the general plan:

2020 is a year of rebuilding hence Project Rebuild. Throughout the course of the year–with the very end of the year being the ideal-but-flexible deadline–I’ll be bringing my book list into the 21st century and will release a new thing or two along the way. And it will take the whole year or potentially more because I have a lot of titles and all this takes time.

Going forward in 2021, I have a few books that are done that need releasing so those will be tended to as well as finishing off some works-in-progress to wrap them up.

While the above two are occuring, I’ll be spending most of my time and energy devoted to making comics. Comics are what started me on the publishing path and are a great love of mine. In short, writing books will be a secondary thing compared to the comics.

All I want to do is finish the last bit of my book publishing life and make comics going forward.

For Axiom-man fans, don’t worry. Lots of prose adventures coming. I’m referring to my non-superhero work.

I also need to point out something to my readers that needs to be taken into consideration: I’m still sick. I’m much better than before, but even when I started up again at the end of last August, I was operating at around 65-70% capacity. Going hard at 1000mph has dropped me to about 50% on a good day, 40-45% on every other day. Each day I come to the keyboard, I’m not healthy on multiple levels, but I work anyway because making art and stories is what I do and it’s what helps me survive. All I’m saying is I’m changing things on various levels so I don’t keel over and die one day in the middle of a script or while drawing something. It is also important to point out that my shift to comics isn’t about accommodating for being unwell. It’s about looking ahead to my deathbed when I’m lying there and looking back. I know I’ll regret it if I don’t do comics and since time is the most valuable thing on this earth, I want to spend it doing something I love.

    Thank you.
