    Winnipeg Comiccon

    Winnipeg Comiccon 2020 Postponed:

Due to COVID-19 concerns, Winnipeg Comiccon 2020 has been postponed.

I was looking forward to tabling at the show but directives from the Government of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg state the show can no longer take place on the planned dates (October 30 – November 1, 2020). Instead, as per Winnipeg Comiccon’s email, the show has been rescheduled for October 29 – 31, 2021 and I’ll be tabling there on those dates (unless something changes beyond my or Winnipeg Comiccon’s control).

Thank you for your understanding. Hope to see you all in 2021!

Status Report: Notes from Sabbatical – 090420:

On top of 2020 putting a wrench into my plans, I simply burnt myself out going 1000mph and wrecked my health as a result. It took all of August to rest up enough to start working again, and by working, I mean getting back into creativity. The difference now–and due to being careful with my health–is I’m working at a much slower pace.

I know you’re used to regular content from me, but that’s something I cannot provide right now. Right now the goal is to ease back into creating and go at a pace that doesn’t destroy me.

I’m feeling a lot better after a month’s rest, but I still have a ways to go in terms of recovery so self-care has been the priority these days and I’m taking things one day at a time, sometimes even one moment at a time.

There are no deadlines. There are no promises. Just simply creating art for the joy of it and telling you about it when appropriate.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well.

This concludes Status Report: Notes from Sabbatical – 090420.

  • Patreon Page is Now Closed

Today, I unpublished my Patreon page.

This was the note I sent to my patrons not long ago indicating this and I’m posting it here for archival purposes. The Patreon page is now closed and so is access to the content.

    The note:

    Dear Patrons,

After this Thursday, I will have fulfilled my Patreon tier fulfillment for this month, which means as of August 1, no new content will be added.

I have also decided to use Patreon’s feature of unlaunching a creator’s page. According to Patreon, this will suspend renewal payments and access to my creator page. However, the good news is if at some point in the future I want to have a Patreon page again, I can relaunch the page.

I plan on unlaunching the creator page on July 31.

Feel free to leave questions or comments in the thread below.

Thank you so much again for your patronage.

    Sincerely,

    A.P. Fuchs

  • Sabbatical

    Dear reader:

After much careful thought and deliberation and self-reflection, I’ve decided I’m going to take a sabbatical from the way I currently do my work. For how long, I’m not sure. What I do know is my health requires a much-needed break from going at 1000mph. I’ve been pushing hard for about a year and it’s taken its toll. That said, I’ll still be making art behind the scenes because I can’t help myself, but in terms of the rat race that is the arts business, I’m going to take a break from it and take the time to recharge and restore.

This means I’m doing an All Stop on publishing new and old work, including Fredrikus and the newsletter.

I will still be doing any freelance work that comes in.

I look forward to catching up with you guys once my health improves.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Sincerely,

    A.P. Fuchs

  • Important Notice: Patreon Page Close-down

Just now I posted a message to my patrons regarding the closing down of my Patreon page. I am re-posting it here as part of due diligence to get the word out.

    The notice:

    Dear Patrons,

After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to discontinue this Patreon page. It’s been running for about a year and I’ve been unable to take it to the level I need it to be to be sustainable.

Thank you for your patronage over the past many months. I hope I was able to entertain you for that time.

Now it’s time for me to step back, have a break, and even pursue other things.

I will fulfill my end of tier fulfillment until the end of July, but as of August 1, no new content will be added.

As for the content presently on the page, I’m not sure if I’m going to leave it up for archival purposes or just close the account altogether.

Please take the time to mind your patronage renewal for this change as I want to be fair to everyone.

Thank you again for being my patron. Your support was always—and still is—sincerely appreciated.

    Wishing you the best,

    A.P. Fuchs

  • Information Diet

    Information Diet:

One of the things we’ve been reviewing around here is our intake of information from our interaction with the Web.

I’m old-fashioned and struggle with everything having to be on a screen–whether for work or play–so to help myself, I’ve entered Mostly Broadcast Mode when it comes to social media. This has cut down on the chatter and done wonders for my mental health. I also get my news directly from the source via a few news apps I have on my computer phone. Other sources of incoming data come from a good old-fashioned newspaper focusing on local news. For websites, I have an app on the computer phone called Read (which I discuss here) and it’s a way to log the websites and blogs I regularly visit and be notified when a new post shows up. Most of them I can read directly on the Read app, which then eliminates the urge to surf the Web.

The idea here is to stay informed while also watching my Web time so I can spend more time making things for you guys.

Yes, the irony of having a blog (on a screen) and a webcomic (on a screen) and a YouTube channel (on a screen) doesn’t escape me. I’m just doing my best to adjust to the Digital Frontier as best I can after having taken some time away from it.

I’m finding the older I get, the harder I find change, but I also realize I need to embrace change to some degree in order for this whole multimedia A.P. Fuchs experiment to work.

Like I’ve been saying lately, one thing at a time.

    Onward.

  • Upcoming Changes to the Blog

Due to my changing workload, there will be some changes to the blog, namely in the area of Status Reports. I might do one on here once in a while, but I’ve decided to do them as weekly videos instead.

The plan is to record them Thursdays and then air them Fridays. I’m not sure when this will start.

My regular YouTube programming like unboxings, reader questions, vLogs, collectible showcases, etc. will remain ongoing.

This plan also opens up the blog for more topical content, whatever that might end up being.

There will be some overlap between these new weekly update videos and the newsletter because some folks prefer reading the updates and some prefer video. Whichever side of the fence you fall on, they’re both worth checking out because the content won’t be 100% identical and each will have their own perks.

Subscribe to my YouTube channel here.

    Subscribe to my newsletter here.
