Writer’s block hits every writer once in a while. For myself, it only happened once until I figured out how to overcome it. That was over twenty years ago. This authortube video is meant to encourage you and put you in the right headspace to keep the story moving forward despite if you feel blocked. Without proper headspace, you won’t get anywhere anyway. It’s my hope that this video helps set your head on straight so you can continue with your story.

  • What’s in a Book Blurb?

Posted on May 18, 2024 8:52 pm by A.P. Fuchs

    What’s in a Book Blurb?

    black headlights collection

A lot, actually. Asking a fellow writer for a blurb can be both easy or daunting, depending on the ask. In the case of CAUGHT IN BLACK HEADLIGHTS, the writer/poet I asked to blurb my book is someone I admire and, frankly, was a little bit nervous handing over the galley for it.

I write poetry, sure, but it’s not my main medium. I used to blast out poems non-stop once upon a time, but these days they’re few and far between. However, the approach to CAUGHT IN BLACK HEADLIGHTS is different than my other stuff and, it seems, paid off.

I won’t give away details just yet, but the book did indeed wind up getting blurbed by that writer and it will be used on the front cover.

    Vague blogging right now.

    Soon.

Oh no! Someone bashed your baby! All those months–maybe even years–of hard work and somebody doesn’t like it. They leave a bad review and you’re stuck feeling like garbage. Or should you?

Veteran author and self-publisher A.P. Fuchs weighs in on a very simple way to handle a bad review.

Hope you find this encouraging despite it being blunt.

Caught in Black Headlights Coming Soon

    black headlights collection

We’re all set. Everything’s on track. My new poetry collection about the truths of life, CAUGHT IN BLACK HEADLIGHTS, should be out end of May/early June (depending how fast the distributor processes everything).

The above image is not the actual cover but just a snippet to whet your appetite.

I’m excited about this one. It’s dedicated to the late Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip.

He wrote a lot about life. Told a lot of stories. This collection is meant to honor that legacy and practice.

Maybe somewhere Gord is proud. Or maybe he’d ask me what the heck do I think I’m doing. Har har.

    Soon.

In the meantime, if poetry is up your alley, STILL ABOUT A GIRL is available. As well some other titles are listed in the Book and Comic Shop.

    Peace.

New Patreon Essay: Creators Need to Stop Doing This Online

    Patreon essays collection

A new short essay was posted to Patreon today for patrons. It’s an important one, in my opinion, because it affects not just the creator doing this one bad thing, but it reflects on the rest of us as well. Unfortunately, the arts community is viewed as a kind of giant whole of all crafts with a few prominent creators in each category standing out (i.e. the big guys like Stephen King or Todd McFarlane).

The trick for any creator is to stand out themselves but doing this one habbit online is not helping their cause. This new essay tells it like it is and asks creators to clean up their act (but not in the way you think).

To check this important essay, join my Patreon journey. Tons of content in multiple categories. Here’s a direct link to the essay. Creators? Stop doing this online.

    Thanks.

    Cheers.

  • A Short Guide to Self-publishing

    A Short Guide to Self-publishing

    a short guide to self-publishing

Those who know me know I’ve been publishing independently since 2004, before it was all the craze.

Along the way, I learned a few things and I’ve shared them here on this site. Here are a few of them to get you started:

Can You Just Start A Publishing Company? This article takes a look at the concept of just coming up with a name for your publishing house then publishing right away and how that’s not how things work.

Most Overlooked Step of Self-publishing, The – or – The Three Types of Writers. Without knowing this critical step, you’ll throw your entire writing and publishing career away.

Top Ten List of Truths for Self-publishers Part One. Telling self-publishing like it is in two parts.

Top Ten List of Truths for Self-publishers Part Two. The second part of telling the truth about self-publishing.

And, believe it or not, a plethora of self-publishing information is available in my book of collected letters called CANADIAN SCRIBBLER: COLLECTED LETTERS OF AN UNDERGROUND WRITER.

Please be sure to visit the Self-publishing Articles section on this site more!

Hope you enjoyed this little guide to self-publishing.

  • Coming Soon? (Really?)

Posted on May 1, 2024 5:00 am by A.P. Fuchs

    Coming Soon? (Really?)

    coming soon

Why is it always coming soon at the blog? Why are there always announcements about this coming and that coming?

    When are they coming?

Okay, you win. Yes, there have been a lot of “Coming Soon” posts recently on this blog. They are not empty promises. They’re to tell you so you know what’s coming down the pike.

And I can assure you, these “Coming Soons” are all in process, meaning it’s not just a creator saying they’ll do this or that, but I’m actually doing it.

    Example:

    Podcast – Check and released.

New Axiom-man book (SCARLET SYNERGY) – Check and released.

Last year, ZOMTROPOLIS – Check and released.

Axiom-man Merch – Check and released with more to coming.

Patreon 2.0 – Check and released.

    And so on.

I’m a one-man show. Things take time, but they do get done you do get to get them.

    Peace.

During that conversation, my friend said something that would change how I approach writing and producing books from then on forth.
