Self-publishing: Playing the Long Game

2023 has been about me making broadstroke creation moves, playing the long game the key component behind each stroke.

There is a reason I’ve been regularly posting videos to this site despite it being about a writer/artist amlnd books and comics.

There’s a reason behind setting myself up and creating content for various platforms.

There is a reason behind why I constructed Patreon 2.0 as I did.

The list goes on.

What you’ve been seeing on this site over the past year are groundwork foundation-laying moves that will aid 2024. You can’t build a house on sand. You need concrete.

This is PROJECT REBUILD 2.0 and it’s working.

Every action I take, and as I’ve mention in my newsletter, are meant to help Future Me along with Future Works which, in turn, help Future You, dear reader.

A lot of PROJECT REBUILD 1.0 was more theory-based and planning-based versus actual execution of the theory. PROJECT REBUILD 2.0 has been the execution of 1.0.

As I state in the below video, there is method to the madness.

vLog – Method to the Madness

2024 is looking to be a fairly big year self-publishing-wise. Lots of titles, so at present I’m mentally mapping out the year in terms of how to release everything and when.

But that’s 2024 and we’re not there yet.

2023 will continue, and finish, as it has been thus far.

A new content schedule will be created for 2024, but as of now, this schedule will remain.

It is true.

It is time.

Patreon 2.0 launches this November 13. I’m aiming to premiere the trailer Sunday evening then do a full-blast posting Monday to launch the page and invite one and all into the PATREON REALM OF HEROES AND MONSTERS.

There are two tiers and they’ll be displayed in full on launch day, but to sum them up, they are:

Tip Jar: $1. Just a general tip to help me along in the art world with my deepest thanks.

All-Access: $5. For just five bucks a month you get everything content that I put on the Web plus the following just for you:

Artwork only revealed here. Nowhere else. Public art is here.

Learn what goes on behind the scenes in bringing you books, comics, art, podcasts, videos, and more. (This is stuff I don’t talk about or show openly.)

Entertaining and/or informative videos made only for patrons.

It began with GIGANTI-GATOR DEATH MACHINE and continues with TWO other running serials.

Photos taken EXCLUSIVELY for this page. Sometimes I add my own sparkle, other times not, but they’re always interesting.

Patreon 2.0 is coming along. You should see the new layout, the new features, the new coolness of it all. I’m working hard to get things ready for you and to entertain you when you become a patron. The page is still a work-in-progress at this point with no official launch date. However, at the rate things are going, it’ll be soon-ish.

Just keep checking back here at the blog for an announcement as well as on all the socials.

Canister X Mailbag – Double Pair of Blue Light Glasses Unboxing – Oct182023

I stare at screens for the majority of my day and by the end of it, my eyes hurt. Sure, it could be I need to see an optometrist, but I’m pretty sure it’s the constant light in your eyes from staring at a screen for hours on end. Further, it exacerbates the issue when you’re looking at something dark then suddenly switch to something bright and back and forth.

Here’s hoping these blue light glasses will help ease the eyestrain. Oh, there’s a mini teaser for a collectible short in this video. I accidentally made it obvious but oh well.

Status Report – 101723

Status Report – 101723:

ZOMTROPOLIS: A RECORD OF LIFE IN A DEAD CITY is back from the editor therefore now it’s my turn to do go over the edits then do one final pass before book production and press time. As of now, we’re on track for a Halloween-ish release.

You guys are gonna love this tale. It’s been in the works since 2008. One of my “eventual books” though it originally was never intended as such but, alas, life happens and projects get set aside so other things can be born. Since 2008, obviously, I written and drawn a lot of stuff, but it was time to finally finish ZOMTROPOLIS and here we are.

Stay tuned for more news as this project develops.

In other news, we’re just working and establishing a strong foundation for PROJECT REBUILD 2.0. Been at it for a few months now and it’s paying off.

More thought is being given to the new Patreon page and how I’ll approach it from a content angle and how I’ll be able to pull it off without burning out.

Like the above, more news as this develops.

Lastly, I just finished a freelance editing project for a client. In other words, I’m open for business so if you need an editor, a formatter, or a book cover designer, I’m your man. Tons of experience. Details here.

Status Report – 091823

Status Report – 091823:

It’s official. It’s done. As per this blog entry, ZOMTROPOLIS: A RECORD OF LIFE IN A DEAD CITY is complete. See the entry for the next steps in the process.

Also what’s done is THE CANISTER X TRANSMISSION: YEAR FOUR and THE CANISTER X TRANSMISSION: THE LONG YEAR FIVE. Those went off to press late last week. Now it’s just an issue of the printer processing the files, sending me a proof, me approving it then getting it into distribution. Like the other collected editions, they will be available in paperback and eBook and contain a bonus issue of the newsletter exclusive to those collections.

We’re programmed until the end of November thus far in terms of Book Spotlight Videos and the REALM OF HEROES AND MONSTERS: STORY TIME podcast. Other stuff is complete behind the scenes but not uploaded yet.

For those who missed it, THE CANISTER X TRANSMISSION newsletter is back. The new issue went out this past Saturday. Subscribe here for this Saturday’s issue.

Other than that, I’m pleased that I finally was able to share the FREDRIKUS animated short with you. I’ve been wanting to for the past couple of years but needed the adapter to connect my very old VCR to my also-old computer. I finally got one and the video was shared. There was some additional brief animation on the reel as well along with a few pieces of artwork. I’m not sure if I’ll upload it or not. I’ll have to think of a way to make it longer because the segments of animation and the few pics last all of twenty seconds. But they’re cool pics. Three-point perspective, some modern, some sci-fi.

We’ll see.

Anyway, I’m pretty tired and I still have work to do.
