Today’s we’re off to the races, er, to press to put the soon-to-be-released CAUGHT AND BLACK HEADLIGHTS into the publishing machine.
This video carries an assortment of behind the scenes looks into the my process of checking a book prior to press then going to press itself. If you’re a book production or creation nerd (I mean, book designer), this video is for you.
Peace. Enjoy.
Poetry coming.

Authortube: Behind the Scenes | Caught in Black Headlights Poetry Book – Going to Press
Those who know me know I’ve been publishing independently since 2004, before it was all the craze.
Along the way, I learned a few things and I’ve shared them here on this site. Here are a few of them to get you started:
Can You Just Start A Publishing Company? This article takes a look at the concept of just coming up with a name for your publishing house then publishing right away and how that’s not how things work.
A lot of time and thought has been put into the essays and articles I post on Patreon for my patrons to help the creators there boost their arts career.
These articles and essays aren’t available anywhere else online except for patrons. Definitely worth the read even if you drop in for just a month.
These are the topics covered so far with more to come:
This is just a quick notice that this exciting pulp superhero novel has just gone to press!
Moments ago everything was uploaded to the various printers and distributors. Now it’s an issue of waiting for everything to be processed before launch!
Finally, AXIOM-MAN/CRIMSON CLOAK: SCARLET SYNERGY will be out soon!
But taxes. Tax season is upon up so the following is just an opinion. I am not a tax expert nor an accountant. Please obey the tax laws of your country and province/state.
The good news for self-publishers is, if you’re set up as a business (which you should be seeing as how you’re selling stuff for money), it can open doors to all sorts of deductions and write-offs.
The funny thing about taxes is you want to make as much cash as you can throughout the year but come tax time, on paper, you want to legally make as little as possible. By setting yourself up as a business, any funds spent on it could be deductible, depending where you live which means you either pay less taxes or get a bigger refund.
In Canada, we can deduct things like office supplies, printing costs, service fees, food, and a bunch of other stuff as long as the expense was related to your business and is allowed to be deducted.
Taxes for the self-publisher is a massive topic and there’s no way to give a firm guide here on this blog because readers come here from all over, but I do suggest looking into the above as per the tax laws of your place of residence. It’s hard enough to make a decent income off your art. Might as well help yourself keep more of your earnings if possible.
Think about it.

2023 has been about me making broadstroke creation moves, playing the long game the key component behind each stroke.
There is a reason I’ve been regularly posting videos to this site despite it being about a writer/artist amlnd books and comics.
There’s a reason behind setting myself up and creating content for various platforms.
There is a reason behind why I constructed Patreon 2.0 as I did.
The list goes on.
What you’ve been seeing on this site over the past year are groundwork foundation-laying moves that will aid 2024. You can’t build a house on sand. You need concrete.
This is PROJECT REBUILD 2.0 and it’s working.
Every action I take, and as I’ve mention in my newsletter, are meant to help Future Me along with Future Works which, in turn, help Future You, dear reader.
A lot of PROJECT REBUILD 1.0 was more theory-based and planning-based versus actual execution of the theory. PROJECT REBUILD 2.0 has been the execution of 1.0.
As I state in the below video, there is method to the madness.
vLog – Method to the Madness
2024 is looking to be a fairly big year self-publishing-wise. Lots of titles, so at present I’m mentally mapping out the year in terms of how to release everything and when.
But that’s 2024 and we’re not there yet.
2023 will continue, and finish, as it has been thus far.
A new content schedule will be created for 2024, but as of now, this schedule will remain.
Realm of Heroes and Monsters YouTube Playlist Curation
As my YouTube channel begins to grow, at this present stage I’ve come to a point where I had to adjust my playlists to keep things more ogranized for those who view and/or follow playlists.
There are the news ones I created and organized. I have plans to tweak and adjust some more, but this is my start:
So as you can see, 5 lists were created to better sort the channel which makes for easier navigation.
Feel free to explore the above and don’t forget to subscribe to the Realm of Heroes and Monsters on YouTube. Helps keep the book and comic machine going.
Running weekly from May 2017 to April 2018, The Canister X Transmission was sent via email to readers worldwide.
Instead of writing letters with a fixed set of topics, A.P. Fuchs simply wrote letters to his readers every week, covering topics like the Frozen Storm Kickstarter, self-publishing, work plans, opinions on publishing, depression, freezing winters, and more.
The Canister X Transmission: Year Four was about connecting with readers through the simple act of writing a letter and the meaning that entails, so sit back, have a coffee, and connect with writer A.P. Fuchs as he brings you into his world of life as a working writer.
Exclusive to this collection is a special Issue One Hundred-fifty-seven A newsletter unavailable anywhere else.
Welcome to The Canister X Transmission: Year Four.
