Publishing Books: The First Half of 2024 in Review

Since we’re at the halfway mark of 2024, I thought this would be a good time to review what’s been published this year so far. Link to book page in the descriptions, but this is where we stand so far in publishing books this year.

There will be a publishing gap until later in the fall. There might be one thing, but that’s in floating status at the moment. The work is done. Just an issue of assembly.

Readers received news straight from A.P. Fuchs’s bunker studio at Axiom-man Central that was meant to engage, entertain, and have some fun.

The Very Long Year Six took a long time to fulfill. It was a time of A.P. Fuchs’s settlement into a new life and a new way of doing things. Ups and downs occurred, but in the end, art and writing prevailed.

The Very Long Year Six Went to Press

On Monday, THE CANISTER X TRANSMISSION: THE VERY LONG YEAR SIX went off to press and will be available in paperback and eBook when it comes out. The collection, like the others, has a bonus newsletter only available through the collection.

I’m excited to get this collection out. Normally, it takes a bit before a newsletter year is compiled for publication, but resuming pace from years gone by, I wanted this out as soon as possible after leading my newsletter readers into YEAR SEVEN (which you’re welcome to join, by the way; free is free).

Anyway, watch this space.

(And once the book is ready at the printer’s, I’ll be getting some copies in and will resume my Book Spotlight series and talk about each volume because each newsletter year is different.)

It took a little while but I got CAUGHT IN BLACK HEADLIGHTS up and running at DriveThru Fiction. It’s a wonderful eBook site with multiple formats for e-reading to choose from. I’ve been cataloging on their site since almost their beginning and love dealing with them. I’m sure you will too.

Vortex Books and Comics

All right, folks, listen up. I’m late to the party but horror authors Brian Keene and Mary SanGiovanni opened up a comic and book store in Columbia, PA called Vortex Books and Comics.

If you’re in the area, head down and support a couple of writers displaying their passion for the written word through sharing books and comics with others.

Brian has been a long-standing figure in the field and has won numerous awards. Mary is also a prolific author with several books under her belt. I know that this store effort is going to be one fueled with passion and opportunity to reach readers in a way that perhaps they might not have been reached before. Better, it’s an independent author-friendly store with little-known quality titles awaiting discovery.

I’m really excited to see where this bookstore endeavor goes, and Brian’s no dummy. I trust his business sense to make the store a success. And besides, I’m pretty sure Mary will keep him in check should he smoke too many cigars and starts talking about how he just met The Defenders.

With this year being all about superhero fiction and the BATTLE OF POWER Trilogy for THE AXIOM-MAN SAGA coming out in the fall, once in a while here at the Realm of Heroes and Monsters we’re going to do a few things to get you up to speed so you’re ready for the final story arc that concludes the first act of Axiom-man’s superhero journey.

We’re all set. Everything’s on track. My new poetry collection about the truths of life, CAUGHT IN BLACK HEADLIGHTS, should be out end of May/early June (depending how fast the distributor processes everything).

The above image is not the actual cover but just a snippet to whet your appetite.

I’m excited about this one. It’s dedicated to the late Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip.

He wrote a lot about life. Told a lot of stories. This collection is meant to honor that legacy and practice.

Maybe somewhere Gord is proud. Or maybe he’d ask me what the heck do I think I’m doing. Har har.
