It’s okay. It happens. Sometimes the story rolls so strong you just go with it and see where it takes you. Unfortunately, though I firmly believe the Story knows best, sometimes a writer finds themselves in a place where they have written themselves into a corner and there is no way to move the story forward. Everything and everybody in your tale is stuck and locked in Time. You tried to fix it but only made it worse. You don’t want to scrap it or rewrite a pile of stuff that came before this point, and even if you backtracked, it wouldn’t be the same. What you have is perfect except . . . you’re in a corner.

Most writers complain when it comes to part of making a book where the back cover synopsis has to be written. Plenty of writers struggle with writing it . . . but it doesn’t have to be that way because, in truth, it’s a basic process. Case in point: If you’re able to sum up your book in one to four words as a title, it’s guaranteed you can sum up the same but just a little more loosely.

Writer’s block hits every writer once in a while. For myself, it only happened once until I figured out how to overcome it. That was over twenty years ago. This authortube video is meant to encourage you and put you in the right headspace to keep the story moving forward despite if you feel blocked. On Moving On

On Moving On

Note: This entry is from that file I found and is a reflection of how I felt at the time I was originally going to post it. I’m entering it here in the interest of archival purposes.

I’ve spent a great deal of my career offering as much advice and knowledge I could about how this business works. I’ve given everything from writing tips to marketing ones to going against the grain in some circles only later to be proven right. Upon reflection, I’ve pretty much said everything I have to say about this business. All of it is chronicled on this website, my newsletter archives (and collected editions), Canadian Scribbler, and social media posts.

I think it’s time to step back and let others discuss those topics and just focus on my own work. See, I love this business so much it upsets me when I see something poorly handled or writers being misled and I’m compelled to say something. I think that season is coming to a close now. Will it be permanent? I don’t know. But will it be for right now? Yeah.
