Authortube: Don’t Overthink the Story (The Subconscious Mind)
There is a tendency to overthink while writing, especially amongst new writers. You want to do well, want to make a good impression, want to come up with something well-written and perhaps clever, and while these goals are good, they can also lead to the slippery slope of overthinking your story.
This video goes over adjusting your headspace so there is no disconnection between your conscious and subconscious mind due to overthinking your story.
As you can see, the writing life is just like the movies. I have an assistant, a publisher ringing my phone off the hook because I’m late on deadline and they need the manuscript ASAP, stacks of notebooks and looms of paper. Books line the walls and typewriters and pens litter the table.
But if you squint your eyes just the right way, you’ll see the truth about a writer writing. This is how I bring you stories. This is where the work is done.
It so happened that on Sunday morning I woke up about 2:30AM fully rested. I tried going back to sleep but no success so I got up, made some coffee, and headed down to the studio.
There was something peaceful about recording in a silent house without risk of anything happening that would require my attention. And it was especially helpful for podcast creation but each episode takes about an hour to record then, including processing time, another 3 hours for digital work, rendering, and upload.
Often, my recording and creation is on a clock. Sunday morning, it wasn’t.
Now, though this video is labeled as an Artisttube one, the principle is for artists of any craft. How do you overcome artistic block in today’s flooded publishing climate? Watch and find out. Clue: The solution is one word and starts with a F.
