    This episode of Funko Friday is all about the black suit. It’s one thing to design a Funko that has color as part of the character’s outfit, another when all they wear is mostly black. Details still need to be added otherwise it’d be a boring Pop. Today we look at two black-suited superheroes, Batman Beyond and Nightwing. Two black suits. Two sets of details.     Summer of 1989. Bat-mania everywhere. It was a magical time for a superhero movie especially since nothing serious for the genre came out since Superman II. While Superman IV ran in 1987, it wasn’ a very serious take on Superman so when Batman came out in 1989 and was a first effort in capturing the darkness of the Dark Knight, it was a really big deal. Like, huge.

    Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Jack Nicholson created something special and it certainly was a massive part of my childhood.

    The Batman and Joker Funko Pops in this video are my personal little callback to that era and a chance to be a kid again.

    I collected the Robin comic books series back when Tim Drake was the star. Spoiler was a fantastic character and a Robin to his, er, Robin. But she also held her own and even held him in check at times. Of course, there was the romantic tension between them and while they were shy–they were teens, after all–they both knew they had it bad for the other person.

    When they made this Funko Pop, I had to have one to go along with my Robin, Batman, and Nightwing as part of the bat-family. Welcome aboard the Funko ship, Spoiler!

    Super Mario Bros. time! We’ve got Mario and Luigi in PCP Pop form! Yes, not Funko Pops! but PCP Pops! All is explained in the video, but either way, it’s fun to have this little bit of 3D Mario World in my collection.

    I grew up with these guys. Well, not personally. Well, kinda. Many hours were logged in front of that old first generation Nintendo system. So much fun! And my mind was blown when Nintendo 64 came out. Mario World was never the same after that.

    Who says superheroes and other Pop Culture characters only get Funko Pops!

    Here’s authors A.P. Fuchs (superheroes and monsters) and Melinda Marshall (dystopian YA novels) Funko Pops!

    Last Christmas I got myself, my girlfriend, and my kids custom-made Funko Pops as a gift. It was done through the Pop Yourself feature at Funko.com. It was a little round-about way to get them because Funko doesn’t ship to Canada (at least when I ordered last October) so I had to first ship to someone I know in the States then have them ship the Pops to me. It took a while but it certainly made everybody at Christmas happy and very surprised.

    I discovered Indiana Jones as a kid and have been a huge fan ever since. Sure, we all love the classic trilogy, but I don’t think they did too bad a job with the new installments either. Harrison Ford nailed the role of Professor Henry Jones Jr. aka Indiana Jones. He played the role serious despite some of the humor, and, if you pay attention, there is a bit of a dual identity thing going on as Dr. Jones acts one way as a professor but when given permission to go full archaeologist, suddenly Indy takes over and he’s the action hero we all love even when it’s him doing non-actiony things.

    The iconic scene from SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE hits the Funko Pop line as this wonderful and romantic set of two Funko Pops of Superman and Lois enjoying a flight together. Hmmm . . . I wonder if she’ll start interally monologuing?

    I had to get this set. SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE was a massive part of my childhood and Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are my favorite Superman and Lois duo. I got to meet Margot in real life prior to her passing. Have a picture of us. She was a very nice lady and I’m sorry she has left us.

    Nightwing has always been a favorite hero of mine and is second to Superman. I got into Nightwing back in 1995 and haven’t looked back since. Interestingly, there was a hero on Krypton named Nightwing. That’s a whole other storyline to discuss so perhaps in another video.
